Lot Report

Provenance:

Private Collection, Calgary

Note:

Painted circa 1924.

In 1919 Gagnon, newly-wed to Lucile Rodier, arrived in Baie-Saint-Paul where he was to live until 1924. Since the opening of the railway line linking it to Quebec City and Montreal, the region had become accessible even during the winter months. Over the next five years, Gagnon would develop deep ties with its inhabitants. He resumed his outdoor painting excursions with fellow artists including Jackson, Holgate and Robinson during this period.
