Lot Report

Cindy Richmond, Molly Lamb Bobak: A Retrospective, Regina, 1993, pages 46-50 (chapter entitled Mature Work) and cat.no.112, illustrated for another skating subject.

Exhibited:

Sport and Art, Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, Canadian National Exhibition, Toronto, 1957.

Note:

Richmond writes that of the various subjects she paints “Molly Lamb Bobak is perhaps best known for her crowd scenes. These large, dynamic paintings record public events as aesthetic experiences... Joe Plaskett has said of her crowd paintings, ‘Art is her life and her expression. Her oils of people in crowds suggest an expansive, even extrovert spirit. Life is celebrated as a carnival - the pulse of life is beating, the game is being played, the drama is enacted.’”
