Duffy and Smith wrote that, for Brandtner, each new painting was an adventure to him, part of his way of living: “And we must be aware that he completed several important murals or panels during the Montreal years... Many were commissioned by the Canadian National Railway for different parts of the country and he became a pioneer in making carved and painted linoleum panels...”
