Private Collection, Toronto

Literature:

The Paintings of Frederick Nicholas Loveroff, catalogue, Norman Mackenzie Art Gallery, Regina, 1981, pages 11-13 and page 33, plate 5, reproduced.

Exhibited:

The Paintings of Frederick Nicholas Loveroff, Norman Mackenzie Art Gallery, University of Regina, Regina, January 16-February 22, 1981, cat.no.5. Also shown at Estevan National Exhibition Centre, Estevan, Saskatchewan; Nickle Art Gallery, Calgary; Moose Jaw National Exhibition Centre, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Mendel Art Gallery, Saskatoon and Art Gallery of Hamilton, Hamilton

Note:

The theme of forest interiors is an important one within Loveroff’s oeuvre and a subject which preoccupied him for most of his career. This lot is a smaller version of A Woodland Interior (circa 1920) and exhibits a stylist affinity with the larger canvas. There is some doubt as to whether the scene is actually in northern Manitoba as Loveroff is said to have painted similar forest interiors near Toronto.
