A label on the reverse of this artwork explains, “The corn is carried in baskets to the ceremony. Corn in the baskets is considered a trade item and would not be donated, so they are ceremoniously transferred into rawhide sacks.
The adults, some of whom have paupered themselves for the occasion are enjoying themselves as much as the children, who in the end will end up richer for the disaster.”
