Note:
A label on the reverse of this artwork explains, “After the greetings and tobacco rituals, the orators with the help of their memory belts, known as wampums, begin the council ceremony. The orators describe the event, and the keeper of the sticks will record the results later in wampum. A few women are present as the society is matriarchal but usually the gathering is with the elders and their respected seniors.”
