Note:
The Indian depicted was named Sabalis. He operated in, or around, St. George in Charlotte County in New Brunswick.
Born in Saint John, N.B., the artist travelled to London circa 1846 and returned to North America, settling in New York in 1850-51 where he had a studio from 1868-72. From 1882, he resided in Saint John until his death in 1896 in Rothesay, N.B.
