Bronze Figure of Durga Mahisasuramardini, Nepal, 17th/18th Century
Raised on a double plinth and surrounded by a flaming mandorla with remnants of polychrome, the well patinated figure with prominent features and full lips dressed in an embellished dhoti and decorated with beaded necklace and tall crown, principle hands holding an alms bowl and performing a mudra, the other arms extended and radiating from the slim body, each holding a ritual object and framed by floating ribbons, the serene deity flanked by a lion and kneeling figure of the decapitated buffalo demon.
